Case is missing a latch and has many contusions and abrasions to the Tolex that show wood but is presentable and easily repaired (recommended). The back of the body has some play wear and there are a couple of dings in the neck behind the first position. The front of the bass is fairly clean with a few dings. The neck appears to have a slight backbow which may be just the truss rod adjustment.ĬONDITION NOTES In very good condition. The intonation isn't correct and even with the two-pole bridge could get pretty close. Plays and sounds nice but the output jack crackles a bit and the bass needs a setup as well. Round-edged vintage black hard case may be of European origin. Olympic white short scale (30") bass, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard with dot markers, single-coil straight pickup with black cover, two jazz-type knobs, pearloid pickguard, two-pole bridge, finger rest for thumb playing, triangle tuners and 4-screw F neckplate, strung with flatwound Fender strings. The instrument features a 30" short-scale alder body, bolt-on maple neck and a white pearloid pickguard, a single neck pickup, volume/ tone knobs and a set of four-on-a-side Mustang-style tuning keys. Fender introduced the Musicmaster bass in 1971, providing an entry-level alternative to the Mustang model. Everything on the guitar is 100% original.įor a ‘student’ guitar this Musicmaster is a surprise package, offering tone and playability beyond its modest price, and is well worth checking out.Click To Request A Pre-Sale Condition ReportĪ 1971 Fender Musicmaster electric bass guitar, gifted to Bill Wyman in the 2000s. The 70’s ‘Olympic White’ finish had yellowed over the years and now more closely resembles a 70’s Blonde finish. The overall condition is very good with only a handful of small dings and scuffs around the edge of the body. Put it through an overdrive setting and it breaks up very nicely giving a gnarly tone that is again very useable. The clean sound is certainly very useable with some nice character. Sonically the combination of single coil pick up, the 24 inch scale length and the surprisingly resonant body and neck combination delivers a clear, chiming tone on open chords played through a clean amp. You could easily go up to 11’s and it would still play effortlessly. Currently it is set up with a set of 10-46 gauge strings which feel very slinky with easy choke free string bending. The neck itself has a reasonably chunky C profile which is very comfortable to play and with good intonation all the way up the neck. This 1978 version has the 22 fret 24 inch scale length as found on it’s bigger sibling the Fender Mustang. Originally a ¾ scale guitar up until 1964 when Fender offered the more popular, and playable, 24 inch scale length as an option. First introduced in 1955 as Fender’s entry level student guitar, the Musicmaster has seen a few revisions over the years before being discontinued in 1982.
